We've had numerous technical issues with bulk sending our email newsletters. Hopefully those are now resolved and we can continue our regular monthly updates. 🤞 

You may have already heard that the Gordie Howe International Bridge is now open to vehicles with the pathway scheduled to open on August 5th at 8am. 

The abundant anticipation and excitement for the pathway opening has been great to see. 

The Windsor Detroit Bridge Authority will be publishing the official policies for the pathway prior to the opening. This will include information on allowed uses (e.g. e-bikes), hours of operation, and more. 

In the meantime we've created this webpage with the information we do know, including places to park. We also created a RidewithGPS Detroit bike route and have included links to some Windsor routes as well. 

We've also updated on Gordie Howe International Bridge project page that explains how we and our partners got this pathway on the bridge. It wasn't easy. Our pathway proposal received a "hard no"at first but we were persistent.

Given that toll is being waived, we ask that you consider making a donation to help our nonprofit or the Windsor Bike Kitchen. 

We're not hosting any opening day rides, but we're helping support the Gordie Howe International  Bike Club rides. They have three rides planned throughout the day. The Sandwich Town Business Improvement Association is hosting a welcoming event for these US rides.

We suspect it's going to be a crowded day on the pathway, so bring some patience!

Earlier in the year, we worked with the WDBA on planning a Open Streets-like bike/walk event before the bridge opened. Given the politics at that time, we couldn't get the go ahead. However, we may have a special pathway event in the coming months.

With the opening of the pathway, we've launched an online bike and trail map that helps bicyclists and pedestrians choose their routes throughout Southeast Michigan and Southwest Ontario. This interactive map lets you plan rides that cross the US-Canada border while exploring hundreds of miles of greenways, trails, on-street bikeways, ferry routes, parks, bike-share stations, repair stations, and popular destinations throughout the Detroit-Windsor region.

We have transitioned away from paper maps due to high production costs and rapid infrastructure updates, the Coalition’s new online tool automatically syncs every 24 hours by pulling real-time information from open data portals. 

We also have free bike stickers featuring a direct QR code linking to the map. Putting this sticker on a bike frame is an easy way to always have a map available. These stickers are available for free at local bike shops and the Michigan Welcome Center in Detroit.

This free event starts at Newlab in Corktown at 2050 15th Street next to Michigan Central.

• 9:30am - Coffee and refreshments compliments of Newlab
• 10am - Newlab walking tour highlighting their mobility work involving bikes, robots, drones, EVs.
• 11am - Corktown bike tour with stops at an art alley, resiliency hub, urban farm, and more

The casual bike tour is about 8 miles. Bikes are not provided, but there is a MoGo bike share station at Newlab.
